Creta ha oltre 1000 chilometri di costa da offrire, lungo i quali si trovano spiagge per tutti i gusti: spiagge con distese infinite di sabbia, spiagge composte solo da ciottoli; alcune organizzate e di tono cosmopolita, altre ancora deserte e incontaminate; spiagge adatte al campeggio, spiagge per gli appassionati di immersioni e sub, pesca e sport acquatici.

La costa infinita e le numerose insenature, baie e lagune che circondano l'isola rendono quasi impossibile elencarle tutte. Partendo dalla parte settentrionale e più accessibile dell'isola, è facile notare che si crea una lunga distesa di spiagge, una dopo l'altra.

La costa meridionale è un po' più difficile da raggiungere, e l'accesso ad alcune spiagge è possibile solo a piedi, attraverso un terreno montuoso. Se si fa base in uno dei principali centri urbani, Chania, Rethymno, Heraklion, Agios Nikolaos, Sitia e Ierapetraavrete l'imbarazzo della scelta a pochi passi o a breve distanza in auto. A Chania è possibile fare il bagno anche vicino al porto, anche se la maggior parte degli abitanti e dei visitatori preferisce le insenature sabbiose di Spiaggia d'oro vicino Agioi Apostoli che si estende verso ovest.

Visitors that are looking for a more remote experience will not be disappointed either. If this is the case, it is best to rent a four-wheel or 4×4 car for peace of mind through the more mountainous and bumpy terrain.
