Aposelemi beach is located between the seaside resorts of Kato Gouves e Analipsi, at a distance of 19 km from Heraklion. This is where the Aposelemi river flows down to meet the Mediterranean Sea. It is some 750 m in length, with sand and shallow waters, and is semi-organized in some parts. Visitors will find a few sunbeds, umbrellas, and also some tamarisk trees to provide natural shade to the visitor. The area around the river’s mouth has formed an important wetland, which provides shelter for a good number of migratory birds ? and other animals.
Visitors have access to a range of amenities including, tavernas, restaurants, cafeterias, bars and other shops that are all to be found in the neighbouring settlements of Kato Gouves e Analipsi. Also, should you choose to stay here, there are many choices for hotels, and apartments to rent in both the villages. To get to the beach, you must take the old National road east out of Heraklion, towards Malia e Agios Nikolaos, until you arrive at the settlement of Kato Gouves. Then, follow the main road of the village until you reach the beach and turn right. Continue along the coastal road to its end and turn right once again. The beach is located behind a couple of resorts and you will find signs to lead you to it. Alternatively, you can continue on the Old National Road towards Anaplisi, and find your way through the coastal path.
There are two more beaches located nearby on the eastern side of Heraklion, which are Analipsi e Anisaras. Il beach of Anissaras is known for its incredibly clean but deep waters. If you continue driving eastwards, you come to Chersonisos, a very popular area for tourism in Crete with several incredible beaches. The beach of Limanakia Chersonisos is one of the most well known that is worth stopping by. It is a relatively small beach though, so best visited during low season or weekdays when you will be able to enjoy it in full. Very close to Limanakia, we also find the Aquaworld Aquarium & Reptile Rescue Centre, a great activity for young and old.
