Lagkada Beach – Diaskari – Lagkada

Aan de zuidkust van Kreta eiland, ten oosten van Ierapetravinden we een overvloed aan prachtige stranden. Een van de beste maar nog relatief rustige plekken is die van Makry Gialos en de nabijgelegen nederzettingen van Analipsis en Lagkada. Hier vinden we twee prachtige stranden genaamd Diaskari en Lagkada that are worth visitors’ attention!

Diaskari Strand

Diaskari is een bijzonder mooi en rustig strand. De meeste delen zijn niet georganiseerd, maar naast de taverna's vind je een paar ligbedden en parasols die je kunt huren. Het is langgerekt met prachtig kristalhelder water en er groeien veel tamarisken. Wit zand omlijst het strand en de zeebodem. Diaskari is ideal for camping and the east part is also popular with nudists. Nearby you will find some rooms for rent and a small taverna. Its name, according to local tradition, comes from the Greek ‘Dioscuroi’. In antiquity, the inhabitants here were mostly sailors, who raised a temple to their patron gods, namely the Dioscuroi, (Castor en Pollux) zonen van Zeus. Als je in de buurt bent, kun je de Minoïsche villa bezoeken, die dateert uit de tweede paleisperiode; opgegraven bij Vigla (iets ten noorden van het dorp) in de jaren 1970, werd verwoest door een brand rond 1450 voor Christus. Je kunt ook een wandeling maken naar Karavospilio, een interessante grot, gelegen aan het strand.

Lagkada-strand

Lagkada Het strand ligt ook in de baai van Makrigialos ten oosten van Diaskari. This is another quiet and sheltered swimming spot with soft sand, small pebbles and stunning waters – most suitable for those wishing to relax away from the crowds. The beach is exposed to the winds and there are no amenities for visitors so it is best to come prepared. There are plenty of smooth rocks on the sea-bed that can become slippery. The beach is a favorite for freedom campers, for the privacy it offers and the tamarisks and the shade they cast. Clothing is optional in many parts of the beach so do not be surprised if you see nudists. The two beaches to the east, just before Moni Kapsizijn Ammoudi (or the Dragon’s Cave) and Kalo Nero.
