Kavros Beach

Kavros Beach

Also available in English German French Italian Dutch Polish

Kavros is the name of the long beach that lies between Georgioupoli and Pyrgos. It is only 4 km east of Georgioupoli and is close to the Hotel of the same name. The area has seen strong tourist development, but less so than the neighbouring Georgioupolis. It is a sandy beach, with clear shallow waters, but unfortunately, because it is open to the winds, it often has quite strong waves. Visitors will have access to several amenities, including restaurants and cafes or bars, so you can spend the whole day here. There are also unorganized sections for those who prefer a quieter spot.

Kavros Beach

Right next to Kavros we find the beach of Kavros. Here we find an important ecosystem of dunes that host various plants and protect the land from erosion. Unfortunately, recent developments in the area have affected the ecosystem negatively. While it is on the main road between Chania and Rethymno and relatively close to Georgioupoli, the beach is always quiet. Tamarisk trees offer a cool spot to sit away from the sun.  Other beaches worth visiting in the area are Peristeras, Kera Beach, Kalives, Kalyvaki and Georgioupoli. This area of Crete island is great for families with children and known for its relaxed and laid back vibe while still being well connected to the main cities. Another popular attraction in the area is the charming Lake of Kournas, home to a large number of birds and animals and with countless spots to sit and relax or enjoy a meal.

Only half an hour south from the beach, you can find yourself in the springs of Argiroupoli. This charming settlement stands at the very border of the regional unit of Rethymno and is a popular destination for visitors to the island. Previously known as Lappa from the ancient city that stood there, the village is full of traces of modern and ancient civilizations, and is a traditional settlement. The springs of Argiroupoli and the small waterfalls complete this idyllic scene where visitors come to enjoy a meal and the natural landscape. There is also a hiking trail towards the village of Moundros that is relatively easy and can be accomplished as a day hike.
