Stalos Beach

If you are here for a swim, you can also visit the picturesque village of Pano Stalos. From Chania, the distance to Stalos is less than 10 km. A lot of people that stay near the city centre, may even choose to walk or bike.

For an extra challenge, you can also follow the coastal path coming into Nea Chora Beach, then Chrissi Akti, the three bays of Agioi Apostoloi and soon arrive at your destination.

As you drive west from Chania, the main road is lined with short term and holiday rentals, hotels, car rentals, banks, shops and restaurants. This is a busy and lively area both during the peak summer season but also for locals. If you decide to base yourself here for your holidays, everything is in close proximity, including supermarkets, gas stations, bakeries and tourist shops. The village right next to Stalos is Agia Marina that has a similar vibe during the day and nighttime. The area is named after the church of Agia Marina that has its feast day on July 17. If you want to experience a Cretan festival, with lots of food and dancing, don’t miss it. The island visible in the distance, Agii Theodori, is a protected natural reserve, where Cretan wild goats roam free. Approaching the island is forbidden.

The area from Chrysi Akti all the way to Platanias is popular with families with children and alternates between quiet sandy areas and organized beach bars. The long stretch of beach is also perfect for leisurely walking and exploring. Walking all the way west, you will reach Agioi Apostoloi, which is practically a cluster of three small and sheltered bays separated by rocky outcrops. The bays have sand, blue-green waters and plenty of vegetation all around. The name, meaning Holy Apostles, comes from a church near the beach on a small hill. You can walk up the hill for a panoramic view of the bays and the surrounding area; the church is very popular during the summer for weddings.
