The “Vineyards Karavitakis” winery is located at the village of Pontikiana in the Kolymbari area of the Chania Prefecture. It is a modern winery built in stone and wood, featuring all contemporary winemaking and bottling facilities. The wines produced are for the most part from grapes grown in their own vineyards (totalling some 10 acres), planted with the varieties Malagouzia, Cabernet, Merlot, Syrah, Tempranillo, Grenage Rouge, Sangiovese and Refosco. Also, the winery uses the Sultanina, Chardonnay and Sauvignon blanc varieties which are supplied exclusively by cooperating growers. The vines are organically grown without pesticides: all the work, pruning and trimming through to the harvesting itself, are all done by hand.
The winery is open to visitors the year round, with the option of wine-tasting tours. On the premises you will see a small distillery for the production of raki in the traditional way and the church of St. Tryphon, the patron saint of those that work with grapes.
